I flip my dashboard thermostat control to defrost and watch the fog fade away; Listen to the applause of the drizzly precipitation as I stare into the grey. Check my complexion in the rearview mirror, my hair’s unsightly but it looks just right. Swallow the lump in my throat as I shift into gear, and speed away as I turn out the dome light. I don’t know where I’m goin’ but it’s away from here, Don't wanna end up being stuck here another year. I don't know where I'm goin' but it's away from here, away from here. Another night spent in this hotel room will surely take my sanity away. I open up this ancient bible from my bedside and let it flip open to a bookmarked page. To find an old love note scrawled in broken sentences, meant for somebody else some other day. Signed “Forever yours until death takes me away” and I feel my stomach begin to ache. I don’t know where I’m goin’ but it’s away from here, Don't wanna end up being stuck here another year. It don’t matter where I’m goin’ because I can’t outrun my trials, All I can hope for is some reprieve for just a while. Don’t know when I’ll be back maybe sometime next spring, When life decides to revive, with all the promise that it brings. Because it’s the simple things and the boring things, That always end up being the important things. So sing me a song to soothe my soul. Sing me a song to help me keep from growing old. Because my heart is tired of pumpin’ this loveless blood, so sing me somethin’ to warm my body from a night out in the cold. Sing me a song to soothe my soul. Sing me a song to help me keep from growing old. Tonight I’m drinkin away my sorrow, I’ll figure out my life tomorrow, so sing me somethin’ to soothe my body and my soul. I don’t know where I’m goin’ but it’s away from here, Don't wanna end up being stuck here another year. I don't know where I'm goin' but it's away from here, away from here.

Seawater soaks your hair, as you stay the night in the salty air. The spray off the rocks stings your face, as you're standing there trying to freeze time and space. You gotta spend your sunlight (x2) You gotta spend your sunlight wisely (x2) Because who wants to lose his life (x3) To deadlines and wasted days slaving away? Asleep in the warmth of the fire, as the night escapes into the day. You’re not sure which next step to take and you wish the waves would lead the way. Keep your eyes (You've got to spend your sunlight) On the prize (You've got to spend your sunlight) Don't lose sight (You've got to spend your sunlight) of this chosen life (You've got to spend your sunlight) You've got to spend your sunlight wisely Because who wants to lose his life To deadlines and wasted days slaving away? My tongue is bleeding from biting like hell. Softspoken and fleeting no longer serves me well.

I'm gonna move to the outskirts of town Don't need no milk man, I'm gonna buy you a dairy cow Cause I don't want nobody always hangin around (x2) I'm tellin you baby, we gonna get away from here Don't need no iceman. I'm gonna buy you a frigidaire Cause I don't want nobody always hangin around (x2) That's why I'm gonna move, I'm gonna move with you Because you give me good feelings you give me good feelings baby You give me good feelings, feelings that I jhust can't explain You give me good feelings thought of you leavin makes me crazy You give me good feelings that I can't live without Listen up darlin', funny as it may be we start havin babies, they better all look just like me Cause I don't want nobody always hangin around (x2) That's why I'm gonna move, I'm gonna move with you Because you give me good feelings you give me good feelings baby You give me good feelings, feelings that I jhust can't explain You give me good feelings thought of you leavin makes me crazy You give me good feelings that I can't live without I want you all to myself, don't wanna share you with nobody else And when I can't be home with you, afraid yiou'll end up with somebody new That's why I'm gonna move, I'm gonna move with you Because you give me good feelings you give me good feelings baby You give me good feelings, feelings that I jhust can't explain You give me good feelings thought of you leavin makes me crazy You give me good feelings that I can't live without

When it starts coming 'round to that time of year and the trees can’t seem to keep a grip on their leaves. And those dark, stormy clouds start hovering 'round up here, and a chill accompanies the breeze. I long for retreat where only she’ll find me. I long for retreat to the Isle of Her. The Isle of Her. I love her. When the sun pokes it’s head above the misty mountain tops into the continental sky, And when I rise to start another day of workin these bones And tryin to stay alive, tryin not to die. I long for retreat where only she’ll find me. I long for retreat to the Isle of Her. The Isle of Her. I love her. Where all I have to do is make her fall in love. On the Isle of Her. The Isle of Her. I love her. Darlin, won’t you fall in love?

I lay awake as dawn breaks, stretch my legs, get up at eight, I was up too late, eggs and bacon, Welch's Grape to start the day. A hot pot of coffee taunts exhaustion from my body as I fill a cup up halfway and leave enough space for J.D. Who loyally takes the pain and rage from playin’ this daily game and makes it go away, yes, he makes it go away. This festive breakfast helps this reckless mess forget the stress of making rent and living check to check. Tou know I need to know which way to go, you know I'm over just floatin on hope alone, and waiting for that wind to blow and carry me away I'm just waitin for that wind to blow (and carry me away) (x4) I’ve finally decided to die tryin’ and quit hidin’ all my private desires inside burnin’ brighter than fire. And recently the ease and efficiency with which we succeed increasingly breeds creativity, exceeding needs. It seems to me we need to meet beneath the leaves this evening to seek sweet dreams in discrete realities. This open road flows below me, broken spokes won’t slow me down. So show me how to grow and glow, don’t doubt me now. I need to know which way to go, you know, I’m over floating on hope and just waiting for the wind to blow and carry me away. Tired of just waitin, over just waitin for that wind to blow And carry me away Tired of just waiting for that wind to blow And carry me away Over just waitin for that wind to blow and carry me away. Tired of just waitin... Over just waitin... Won't be waitin... No more waitin for that wind to blow and carry me away Won't be waitin for that wind to blow and carry me away No more waitin for that wind to blow and carry me away

Girl, you ain't nothin but a good woman always on my lonely mind. (x2) I'm spendin all my time daydreamin' she was mine. The blues ain't nothin' but a good woman when you're destined to be just a friend. (x2) I'm spendin all my time stuck inside the friend-zone again. Lord help me, think I'm goin insane. Woman's been gettin' at me, she's twistin up my brain. Lord help me, think I'm losin my mind Woman's been gettin at me, got me thinkin bout her all the time I'm spendin all my time daydreamin' she was mine.

You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies If you can’t tell me the truth, I’m gonna tell you goodbye Save your breath, I’ve heard it all before, Lie to me again and I’m out that door You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies If you can’t tell me the truth, I’m gonna tell you goodbye You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies I’ve already given plenty of one-more-tries Save your breath, I’ve heard it all before Cause sayin you’re sorry ain’t workin no more You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies If you can’t tell me the truth, I’m gonna tell you goodbye Because You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies And it don’t matter if its night or day, You always got sunglasses on your face And anytime I ask you where you’ve been You always hide behind your polarized lens Well if you’ve got a problem with being completely honest with me Then I suggest we go our separate ways So you can find somebody else to deceive. Because You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies Won’t you take off those shades and look me in the eye? You’re always gone and then you come home late And you can never seem to keep your story straight Because You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies It don't matter what time of day, I want the whole truth and nothin but the truth, I say Because You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies You can’t keep keepin secrets and tellin lies

I spent some time down in Mexico I took a little trip down to Rosarito I had no plans, just goin' to do my thing I never saw it comin with that senorita and that crackerjack ring. I thought I'd head South, Oaxaca was my rendezvous Stopped in Salsipuedes, tried to catch a wave or two. I slept out on the beach, stared up at the stars at night. Sometimes being lonely feels a little less wrong than right. Because a beautiful woman seems too good to be true I woke up in the morning, eyes dry as a mouthful of sand Foggy air, foggy head, empty jug of mescal in my hand A bonita mamacita, she was walkin down by the shore Came and sat next to me and said, "hola mi amor." She took me back home, cooked me delicious things. Juevos y nopalitos, desayunos tuggin on my heartstrings. A couple warm tortillas: that would surely seal the deal. I couldn't help myself, I had to tell her how I feel. A beautiful woman who seems too good to be true, Yea, she probably isn’t on the level with you. Typical me, thought that I had found true love But the American dream was all she was thinkin' of I was on cloud nine when she said she'd be my wife She was just waitin' in line to punch her ticket to a brand new life She had rojo mal de ojos in her hair Her eyes were raven black, her skin so soft and fair, She took me places I never dreamed I’d see. I wish I knew back then, she’d make a fool of me. Because a beautiful woman who seems too good to be true, Well, she probably isn’t on the level with you. A beautiful woman always gettin her way, She'll be gone before you know it as you’re begging her to stay.

The younger we are, the more we seem to think we know But as we get older, we realize there’s much room to grow The questions keep getting more difficult everyday But if you look inside your heart, you realize that the answer is still the same: You got to act justly, you got to show mercy. You’ll always be lovely, don’t stop walking humbly along. Yea you got to act justly you gotta show mercy. You’ll always be lovely, don’t stop walking humbly along. Yea all that you need is right inside of you. (x4) My humility has taught me and faught me, eventually brought me to be a better man The lessons of life, the wrong and the right, I close my ask Which way do I go, which path do I take, am I living righteously? How do I react, do I fight or not, or just wait patiently? And although the questions get more difficult everyday Just look inside and realize the answer is still the same. You got to act justly, you got to show mercy. You’ll always be lovely, don’t stop walking humbly along. Yea you got to act justly you gotta show mercy. You’ll always be lovely, don’t stop walking humbly along. Yea all that you need is right inside of you. (x4) My humility is my ability You got to act justly, you got to show mercy. You’ll always be lovely, don’t stop walking humbly along. And when you’re wondering what’s required of you And you’re struggling with all those great things that you want to do, just remember stay true. And people will realize you’re lovely for just being you. Don’t stop walking humbly, all that you need is inside you. Yea all that you need is right inside of you. (x4)

Lately all the subtleties have gone the other way And every single day I see another change The way things rearrange Can happen when you blink your eyes And somethings gone away, and nothing I can say Can bring it back to me, it’s swept away at sea. Lately all the subtleties have cut me to the core And I don’t know what more that I could ever be That you could ever see The way I always long for things to seem to you, from me The message leaves the shore But will it ever reach another sandy beach? When I speak my mind these words will only fly To heights they’d never see unless they find a ride Upon the weary wings of a long lost melody That’s come down from the sky to give me one more try This message flies for me. Lately all the subtleties have made me realize No matter how I try, I’ll never have control It’s never been my role To take things that don’t sit well within my twisted mind And make them realign with what’s inside my soul So do I raise or fold? When I speak my mind these words will only fly The heights they’d never see unless they find a ride Upon the weary wings of a long lost melody That’s come down from the sky to give me one more try And when I speak my mind, these words will only fly.. And when I speak my mind, these words will only fly when they meet the melody

Summer Again 03:59
I can see it in your eyes the things they say to me you just can't hide So darlin tell me what's on your mind No this ain't no time to be shy Because it is rare in this day and age to find somebody on the same page When everybody's reading different chapters of different stories So take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go down that different road No I don't wanna let you go down that different road. I can see it in your eyes the way they wrinkle up when you smile Those dimples really melt my heart you know I loved you right from the start And it is rare in this day and age to find somebody on the same page When everybody's reading different chapters of different stories So take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go down that different road No I don't wanna let you go down that different road. And it must be summer again Yea it must be summer again Well it must be summer again the season of sunshine and lovin the season of sunshine and lovin So take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you Take my hand and come with me I don't wanna let you go down that different road I don't wanna let you go down that different road No I don't wanna let you go down that different road.

Deep End 04:31
Baby, you're a wildflower no man will ever tame. I'm just a big old oak tree trying to offer you a little shade. But you were gone so quickly from underneath this branch if mine. And who can really blame you when you say you need some more sunshine? How long do I keep holding out for something you're not sure you'll ever be ready for? I'm not one to test the water, I prefer to dive right in. And when you say that you don't want to, I say if not now, then when? And it hurts even though she warned me that this is how things were gonna be. A whimsical girl with the smile of an angel, I guess I should've seen. Should've seen through the drunken makeout sessions, through laying in the grass. Through telling her all my hopes and aspirations, although this would never last. I'm not gonna keep holding out for something you're not sure you'll ever be ready for. I'm not one to test the water, I prefer to dive right in. And when you say that you don't want to, I say if not now, then when? Suit yourself girl, just remember we're all still learning how to swim. And I've been drowning in the deep end ever since you pushed me in. It turns out she left her heart and soul down in Paris, France. Gave it to some real hip guy, guess I never had a chance. I could never offer her an Eiffel-Tower-filled romance. No wine-soaked days. No whirlwind overseas emotion usually only seen in motion pictures on the screen, but no, she'll never feel that ocean breeze inside the theater, gotta go to the sea. (x3) So won't you go down with me? I'm not one to test the water, I prefer to dive right in. And when you say that you don't want to, I say if not now, then when? Suit yourself girl, just remember we're all still learning how to swim. And I've been drowning in the deep end ever since you pushed me in. You pushed me right in.

Breaks 04:28
I left my baby in the rain, teardrops streaming down her face, And I don’t think I can do this anymore. (x2) This life I’m living wears on me like a pebble on the beach, Wave after wave, an endless battle on the shore. (x2) This life I'm livin wears on me, life I'm livin wears, livin wears on me you know it wears on me (x2) I only run away from you because that’s all I know to do, When my troubles are waiting outside my backdoor. (x2) Yea one last look into your eyes I never meant to victimize, My heart’s been ripped right from my chest and thrown on the floor. (x2) This life I'm livin wears on me, life I'm livin wears, livin wears on me you know it wears on me (x2) The wind blows through our old tree swing, the memories they burn and sting, And I don’t think I can do this anymore. No I don't think I can do this anymore But if I ever break these chains, I’ll meet you back out in the rain, I’ll kiss your mouth and hold you tight forever more.

Around the darkest corner, on the back-road of your mind, there’s a man ignoring warnings, eating fruit straight from the vine. A herd of horses gallops across the line. The red-capped chap hanging on your wall, he don’t know who you are. He spends his days putting stains on the wall with the smoke from his cigar. His torso ain’t quite finished, but his hands, they are rough and scarred. This place is going down; it’s going down real fast. Your beat-down, ragged world is running out of gas. They told you hold on tight, yeah hold on with both hands. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, you can’t have too many friends. You looked left, you looked right, when you came upon them tracks. The world was in your eyes, there was no turning back. The stranger sitting on your couch just staring at the screen, she glimpses her reflection in the static and starts to gleam. The shadows dancing all across her face you know they're so serene. The boy with terror running in his veins, he’s fleeing from your house. The moonlight shines down on the trees and the wind throws the leaves around. The silence is quite deafening until the screams start to resound. This place is going down; it’s going down real fast. Your beat-down, ragged world is running out of gas. They told you hold on tight, yeah hold on with both hands. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, you can’t have too many friends.

about

Singer/guitarist/songwriter Micah Brown's debut full length album, "The Isle of Her", is a product of the last two years of writing and recording at 17th Street Recording Studio in Costa Mesa, CA, with producer/engineer Lewis Richards (Slightly Stoopid, Sublime, Dirty Heads). In Micah's words, "it's like a mixtape of my influences, as performed by me, along with some friends in our own unique style." Blending folk, americana, blues, acoustic, soul, rock and reggae to create a sound that eminates the california coast, the polynesian islands, with roots reaching back to the delta blues of the deep south and beyond, it's a brand new kind of Soul/Folk that can't be described, but must be heard to understand.
